The New Stuff

Are Breast Implants Worth It?

The reason why breast augmentation surgery remains to be on top of the most requested surgeries is because implants provide them with an opportunity to get the breasts that they want. Those who have it claim that it improved their confidence and their form.

However women should know that having these enhancements done is a serious commitment. Also, they should be aware that implants are not permanent. At one point or another it can be subjected to eventual wear and tear.

Breast implants naturally can’t last forever because these are simply man-made devices. They eventually deteriorate until they become a threat to the body. That is why surgeons suggest that mammograms are done not only to check your breasts for any abnormalities, but also to assess the condition of your implants.

Some implants can last for more than ten years, while others can’t even reach five years when they start showing signs of decline. Since breast implant manufacturers do not provide an expiration date for their products, the best way to check the condition of the implants is to consult your cosmetic surgeon on a regular basis to check for silent problems such as leaks.

The longevity of a breast implant also has something to do with the type of material that is used. This is where the debate on silicone or saline implants comes in.

With the new materials that are available in the market today, it can be said that cosmetic surgeons are more confident with their durability. Back in the day where there is only saline and liquid silicone the risk of rupture, leaks, and folding can result to implant breakage.

A recent issue on implant leakage is the PIP scandal, where thousands of women worldwide became recipients of these faulty and poor-grade implants. The complaints started to pile up on the company’s implants which are prone to rupture. What makes it worse is that the silicone used was industrial grade and not one that is medically approved to be placed inside the body.

As much as it was devastating for those women who trusted those types of implants, there are also companies that developed better solutions. Today, you can find breast implants that are made out of cohesive gel, or what is known as gummy bear implants. They do not leak and they are devoid of the risk of ruptures. Also, they are made of safe materials.

But even with that, it is always smart to get a regular yearly checkup of your breasts so that should any minor problem occur, it can be remedied promptly. Always know that implants are subject to wear and tear, so it is best to be ahead of the problem by using preventive measures.

Another reason why breast implants, particularly those made out of saline, fail is because of the surgeon. Overfilling or under filling are usually the common causes why the implants break which results to leakage or ruptures. A wrong size can also result to wrinkling or rippling making the implant easily subjected to breakage. That is why it is best to choose a reputable and certified cosmetic surgeon to do the job.

Breast augmentation costs can be rather steep, so make sure that you get it from a clinic that ensures top quality implants. See to it that the expertise of the surgeon and the type of implants will all work to give you years of satisfaction to your new form.
